Library Card

Library cards are free for residents in the Miami‑Dade Public Library System taxing district. This includes unincorporated Miami‑Dade County and all municipalities except Bal Harbour Village, Hialeah, Miami Shores, North Miami, North Miami Beach and the Town of Surfside.

Residents of Hialeah, North Miami and North Miami Beach are allowed reciprocal borrowing privileges for items owned by the Miami‑Dade Public Library System.

Non‑Miami‑Dade County residents and residents who live in Bal Harbour Village, Miami Shores or the Town of Surfside may obtain cards for an annual fee of $65.

How to Apply

Apply in person at your nearest branch library or apply online to receive an eCard (electronic library card), which will allow you to immediately begin using our online library.

Individuals less than 16 years of age must have parental authorization to obtain a library card. A parent or guardian must be present to give parental authorization.

Renewing your Card

Library cards are valid for three years and will automatically renew for another three‑year period if you have a balance of less than $20 on your account. You may be asked to show photo ID and/or proof of address during your next visit to any MDPLS branch location. If you have a balance of $20 or more on your account, you must pay any outstanding balances before renewal. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care at customercare@mdpls.org.

Forgot your Password?

Your password is a 4‑digit number you selected when you registered for your library card or updated your account. If you provided an email address when you signed up for your library card or updated your account and have forgotten your password, go to My Account and click Forgot your Password? Enter your library card number and you’ll receive an email with a temporary eight‑digit password that will allow you to log in to your account. You should then reset your password to a 4‑digit number.

If you did not provide an email address, please contact Customer Care at customercare@mdpls.org or visit your nearest branch library with your library card and photo ID to reset your password.

Lost or Stolen Card

A lost or stolen library card must be reported immediately in order for the Library to deactivate the card and to prevent unauthorized use. You may visit or call your local branch to report the card lost or stolen.
