Miami‑Dade Public Library System Geeks Photography during the Black History Month Photo Contest

– Teens are invited to get behind the lens for a chance to win –

(Miami, FL – January 20, 2015) Experienced and amateur photographers, ages 12‑19, are invited to participate in the Miami‑Dade Public Library’s 7th Annual Black History Month Teen Photography Contest beginning Tuesday, January 20, through Saturday, February 7, 2015.

Photographs must capture an aspect of African American culture in Miami‑Dade County. Suggested categories include architecture, art or lifestyle. Images may be black‑and‑white or color. Entries will be judged on technical quality, artistic merit and visual impact. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

1st Place Prize – GoPro Camera
2nd Place Prize – $75 Best Buy Gift Card
3rd Place Prize – $50 Best Buy Gift Card

“The annual contest encourages teens to not only look at black history in a different light, but also to reflect on their surroundings with an artistic perspective” said Ian Rosenior, Library Operations Administrator. The winning entry will become part of the library’s permanent art collection.
