Miami‑Dade Public Library Celebrates National Poetry Month With Contest For Teens

– Teens to write in 5th annual Poetry Contest –

(Miami, FL – March 11, 2015) Young adults, 12‑19, are invited to enter the Miami-Dade Public Library’s fifth annual Teen Poetry Contest, in celebration of National Poetry Month. The contest runs from April 1‑30, and the theme is What do you Geek? Poems may be on anything: a favorite hobby, books, music, movies, sports—it may even be about the library.

Poems should be 15 lines or less and will be judged on originality, artistic quality, and emotional impact. Submissions must be the writer's own work and should not have been previously published. Printed entries must be submitted to any Miami‑Dade Public Library Branch by Thursday, April 30, 2015. Winners will be notified by Monday, May 11, 2015.

First, second and third place winners will receive Barnes & Noble gift certificates valued at $150, $100 and $50.

Contest entry forms are available at any branch or online at www.mdpls.org. Poems may also be submitted, at the library’s Facebook page which is www.facebook.com/miamidadepubliclibrary.

Teens seeking feedback on their poetry are invited to a poet‑in‑residence program with published, local poet Dr. Barbra Nightingale at:
