Miami‑Dade Public Library System launches Homework Help and Tutoring Program

– Certified teachers to provide free tutoring at libraries for students grades K‑12 –

(Miami, FL – August 17, 2018) As kids in Miami‑Dade County begin a new school year, the Miami‑Dade Public Library System will be helping students achieve academic success with the launch of the MDPLS Homework Help and Tutoring Program.

Certified teachers will provide students in grades K‑12 with free homework help and tutoring in reading, math and science at 18 library locations throughout the county beginning on August 25. One‑hour tutoring sessions will be held at participating branches on Saturdays at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon.

“This is another example of the great services provided by Miami‑Dade County to help our children and their families,” said Miami‑Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. ”Whether students have questions about their homework or are struggling with reading, math or science, the MDPLS Homework Help and Tutoring Program is a no‑cost option for them to get the help they need.”

“Part of our mission is to promote literacy and learning in our community,” said Library Director Ray Baker. “We are excited about launching this program and doing our part to help students be successful in school.”

For more detailed information about the program, including participating library locations, and to register online, visit www.mdpls.org/tutor. Patrons may also go in person to any branch and ask library staff for assistance to register.
