Miami‑Dade Public Library System to close all branches to the public effective Wednesday, March 18

(Miami, FL – March 18, 2020) In response to coronavirus (COVID‑19), the Miami‑Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) will close all its library locations to the public effective Wednesday, March 18 until further notice.

MDPLS wants to remind its customers that although its physical locations will be closed, its online library is always open and accessible from anywhere through www.mdpls.org. A wealth of digital options are available to patrons for free with their library card, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, digital magazines, movies, music, online learning and tutoring and more.

Those who don't have a library card can apply for an eCard online at ecard.mdpls.org. This electronic card will give them immediate access to the MDPLS online library and other services.

The MDPLS mobile app, available for free on iOS and Android, is also a great tool to access the online library.

MDPLS has also extended due dates for all materials until regular operations resume so patrons do not have to worry at this time about returning any items they have checked out. Additionally, as a fine‑free library, there is no charge for overdue materials. Pickup dates for requested materials on hold have also been extended.

For assistance with library cards, library accounts and any questions, residents may contact the MDPLS Customer Care team seven days a week at customercare@mdpls.org or call their nearest library branch.

MDPLS will continue to monitor COVID‑19 and follow the direction and guidelines provided by Miami‑Dade County officials, the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For the latest COVID‑19 updates, information and resources, residents are encouraged to visit www.miamidade.gov/coronavirus.
